| well I'm sorry I've been sitting idle, but now that i have a good version of my map out w/o any rush to do the next version I guess I should get to work on the clan. I want to talk about the clans goals, what it should be doing and how it should do it. To my knowledge the clan is suppose to help spread the map its about, organize events to play the map and help newbies join the map. Now to do these I'm thinking of changing the grunt position from those who can host to those who help the clan fulfill these goals. Shaman position will mean you both supervise the grunts and do these things yourself. The best ways I can think of to do this is pretty simple. Start full house pubby games, a fast auto refresh normally helps with this. Host download only games. So ya I'm asking shamans to hos the game more often, host dl onlys and promote people who like to play the game a lot to grunts, demote non-hosts and people who rarely play the game. If you don't want to do this I'll understand and give your shaman spot to someone who will. | |

| You have the option to do whatever you feel in the Channel is Necessary.
If you can get a bot to run in channel like I have mine Ill remove my bot and move over to a hosting only bot.

| i agree with diaster- this is what the clan should be doing and is a good plan.
doesnt make sense when everyone hosts private games lol
everyone only hosts when theres at least 4-5 people in the channel who are willing to play
nobody hosts pubbies because they dont want newbies on their hands (who dont know how to click their inventory lol)
id help but i lost my hosting powers a day after i learned how to >.<
(and wait rhys what do you mean by a hosting-only bot?)

| Well, diaster, you said one of the new Shaman requirements was to host more public games. I would gladly do so if I could, but I cannot host. This was not an issue with either of the previous Chieftans, but I understand if you feel you need hosting Shamans.
I will however probably not stay in the clan as a Peon. I would most likely end up like Jay where I just come to the clan channel when I'm looking for a game, because I have multiple other clans that want me as Shaman. Shaman in another clan I respect is > Peon in this clan. No offense.
In any case, I'm not going anywhere even if I change clans. I'll just not idle in the channel as often.
P.S. Woo! 500th post! | |

| I've tried hosting with direct connect instead of my router, I've port-forwarded, I've tried everything I have heard of.
I haven't tried PLC, but I don't know why that would let me host. My understanding was that it just improved the capabilities of people who could already host.
So, I believe my ISP blocks me somehow, because I cannot host in any games no matter what I do. I cannot change ISP without going to dial-up.
If you have any ideas, I would love to be able to host.
I also want to point out that it is my preference to stay in the clan.

Thats the saying right? Something Like that?
In all Honesty Dragonheart I had an Issue with it but out of respect for you I left you in the shaman spot since you've been there for so long, but I do agree with diaster that shamans should be able to host, I always have since I became Chieftain.

| I have run into that alot in my various clans throughout my history. Usually I win over the Cheiftan through shear skill at xxx game and/or good manners.
If you feel you need Shamans that can host, I will understand and hold no grudge.
My operating system is Vista, but I have another computer with XP and it cannot host either. I have Norton on both computers, but I have forwarded ports 6112-6119 through Norton so that it lets anything on those ports pass ignored. In addition, I always turn off all firewalls before attempting to host. (Including the Windows firewall that some people forget about.)
P.S. If you demote me for not being able to host, I expect you to also take a look at the other Shamans. Some of them don't care much about the other half of the job. (Keeping the chat channel clean of bullshit, keeping trouble makers out of it, and keeping order.)

| I never was a part of the clan and chose not to be a part of the clan, not because of prerequisites or anything. Hell, if I did I would still be Cheiftan from when Sin left for that BetA game that failed. Otherwise I would have to be all, host more pub games blah blah blah, you're a bad shaman blah blah blah, you can't host blah blah blah, you aren't active enough. It's an actual job, which I don't want my hobbies to be. | |

| Shamans Are not required to keep order in the channel. They are not moderators. It is not a Job.
Shamans Become shamans because they enjoy the game enough to where they play on a consistent basis and they are generally friendly, if even just a little. It is a natural reward for joining the clan and a recognition that you contribute to the games well being.

| Actually, I disagree with you.
I think it is the Shaman's job to keep the channel friendly, to recruit new people to the clan, and to spread the map whenever possible.

| Lol? Please support your statement.
In a debate, you must support any assertion with logic and/or evidence.
This subject is probably going to come down to opinion, in which case it will be diaster who decides the goal of his Shamans.

Before I was chieftain things worked the way you stated. I became Chieftain and I changed things. You where the exception because you made a huge deal about it on the forums and I didn't care much.
Now Diaster is Chieftain, sure he can change it if he wants but it sounds to me like he doesn't like the old ways either.

| So you don't like there being law and order in the channel and having responsible people as Shamans? You would rather have random people who are good at the game replace them instead?
Also, when did I make a big deal about it? If you wanted a new Shaman, I don't care. As I said, I have approximately 3 clans waiting for me to join and be a Shaman at any given time.

| Law and order?
Are we a self governing country now?
I fail to see how any one could do any bad in the channel. The spam and get booted. The abuse the bot and they lose there bot privilege. Any other pressing issues you feel we need to hire sheriffs for?

| yes yes I see your points, shamans are also to act as moderators, and I agree but is almost always full of afk players or empty, and when it isn't there are normally 2-3 shamans on. Now back to me trying to fix stuff.
You say you did port forward on your nortan, but did you port forward your router? that is what would screw you up, also what type of internet are you running? Try to work with me here, I'd rather fix your hosting issue than demote you, and I'm pretty sure pick up list checker can allow you to host.

| I port-forwarded both things using guides from portforward.com. I am 100% sure that I did it correctly in both cases. I have also tried various mixes of only done one or the other.
My internet is DSL from Yahoo. It generally has 300-500 upload and 1000-1200 download.
If you can explain to me why or how PickupListChecker could make me host, I would gladly download and use it.
Your also correct that moderators are not often needed. But, the same thing could be said about the forums. We only have issues every few weeks, but when we do we need the moderators.
@Rhys: We have lately been discussing the community and it's three branches as being similar to the Democratic Republic of the U.S.A. So, in that respect, yeah we are a self-governing *community*.

| I would imagine that the program alters the way the data is received and has to go through ports that are rarely block like when u surf the net. | |

| Sure, but when I read the PLC description it said something like "This program lets people who can host do so more efficiently and reduces delay. It also has a slew of other helpful features." That is roughly what I remember when I went to check out PLC. - BlinkDagger wrote:
- NOTE: If you couldn’t host a game normally (without Listchecker), then most likely you won’t be able to host with Listchecker either!
That is from the PLC install guide written by him.
