My Opinion Empty
PostSubject: My Opinion   My Opinion EmptyFri Aug 22, 2008 2:06 pm

I'm probably leaving out a few details for bones to pick I have, but since I'm using the update template (in a slightly different form), I probably should have a good well-rounded topic of what I think. Well anyways, here goes with one of my other new and epic posts:

Multi-Elements

Truly, my opinion on the overall multi-elements is that they pretty much ruined the older versions of MM&M, but I have a sure feeling that they will be staying. So in this case, I'll put out my opinion on what I think about it overall.

In all honesty, M-Spells are very deadly in most cases, and they should be matches up to the other "C" spells in the normal books but only slightly stronger. For example, Earthen Skin should be almost as useful as Sinkhole, but not quite. They both have situations where they would be most useful... and combined, they would be great. However, since they are separated, they seem fine. I'm going to leave off the rest of my opinions until I actually start playing some of the M-Spells again (if I ever do).

Terrain

You might think that I have nothing to say about it, but I do. I think that there needs to be more cliffs on the map. I also think that the middle fountain area should be removed or cut off. What I mean by cut off is that you can't go through the center to get from 1 side of the map to the other... unless you have blink. Basically, you would have to put the fountain in the middle of a wall cutting off the top from the bottom. It wouldn't be a hard addition, and I truly believe that it would solve some major issues with teamfights occuring at middle.

Spells

Alright, I have an anecdote to back me up with this one. When I put Ice Slide in for Frost Armor, some people criticized it saying that it wasn't supposed to be on Ice. It reduced the advantage Wind had of maneuverability. I have one question to ask, though. Does each element have to specialize in a certain area? Does one element have to have a domination of AoE? How about one for stuns? And another (like wind) for mobility? I truly don't think so. I think spells should be whatever seems like a good idea and is original from other spells. So long as it is useful, the element the spell belongs to should not matter.

Also, on the note of spells, I believe that far too many deal a bit too much damage. I mentioned that I wanted all spells reduced down to 2/3 of their current damage. Well, I was being pretty broad with that. Yes, some spells are fine... and reducing their damage would make them nearly useless. However, spells like Erupt, Fire Nova, and Thunderstorm's damage should probably be 2/3. I wont list off the exact spells that I'd like to see reduced to 2/3 unless I am asked to, however, and will leave it at that.

Yet another thing I don't like about spells is how some of them are random. Erupt is my #1 most hated spell. It deals tons of damage at a click... and it's based 50% on luck and 50% on positioning. Sure, the positioning can be hard to get and the stuns that you are susceptible to are hard to avoid, but when it gets going and it stuns those mages that are a threat to you, then they can kiss their asses goodbye. Triple kills ahoy with Erupt. A simple fix would be to make it multiple fissures that go off... so you'd have to be right next to the person and slowly channel it dealing a fissure every 1.5 seconds or something. I don't know how it could be done, but it definitely deserves a change.

Finally, I think some spells that don't scale truly should. Many of them are unscaled for a reason, and some others seem like it's just stupid to have it that way. My main pick here is Mountain Giant. It dominates early game, then when you get too late it becomes a spell that becomes un-used. If some of the spells scaled (like Sea Elemental Morph), then it would be used.

Units

Now this is an interesting topic. Units... The thing that drive the game back and forth. They're pretty well-scaled, and their damages, armor, attack speed, and everything else seem pretty fine in my opinion. However, movement speeds need to be tweaked. Morphs should be slower than mages for sure, and units should be faster than mages. I'm not sure how it'd work, but I think movement speeds are just slightly off.

Also, there's a huge issue with units. Their corpses last absolutely forever. Their corpses should last 1/2 as long as they do. The issue here is that it causes lagg. This can hurt some players FPS, and thus lead to a really hard game to deal with. Either way, it's a simple fix. This does not apply to mages, of course.

Neutrals

The neutrals in the war are... well... they destroy everything. The west side doesn't attack the neutrals if you are attacked, yet the east does? This leads to major issues with low-level mages who are put on the west. If they accidentally stumble upon these neutrals, then they have to fend them off themselves or die trying. It's rediculous. Just remove all neutrals from the war and it'll be fine.

The neutrals for questing are just annoying. The thunder lizards are my least favorite because they destroy summons so fast. This means that summoner builds can't do them, and yet all other mages can. However, for other quests, you need to kill masses of units that are spread out and this is hard for mana-using mages and easier for summoners. I don't know about it, and it's no big deal since neutrals are optional, but that's what I think.

Quests

Very little variation. Replay factor is fail. The quests are basically the way to grind, doing the same thing over and over and over and over again until you don't want to anymore. I'm sure this has already been mentioned, but they left something else out. They just want different types of quests like escorting a unit or searching for a person to deliver a message to etc. I wish to take it a step further and give options or set "types" of each quest being Dark, Neutral, or Light. These could be based on what the player chooses to do at the time of starting/finishing the quest or they could be pre-set based on your primary element. Either way it doesn't matter to me, but I truly want something more than the old do the same thing over and over until you can't do it anymore.

Items

I've got a bone to pick with items, but I'll wait until they are re-done as everyone is hoping to be scaled until opening up hell on it.

Other/Optional

I'm pretty sure that most of it has been pretty clear so far, but I'd like to suggest a system giving all players +1 gold every 5 minutes while the war is going (if they're in it). This would help for people just starting, and would probably lead to being able to go back for your first book etc. without having to pay the full price.

I've noticed you've redone the Loading Screen info. However, you should probably re-do it again. First of all, you've labelled it as Clan Zmmm... why isn't ZMMM fully capitalized? I know this is probably something really stupid to be complaining about, but c'mon man. We're ZMMM, not Zmmm! Anyways, you should probably remove the "Find this on epicwar.com" because that's not the main source. Give them the link to the site right off the bat and instead of leading them directly to the vast website of epicwar, lead them into the site. It'd increase the opinions you'd get most likely and might help out the community growth.

Color. That's one big thing that MM&M is missing. Re-done tooltips to have mixed colors instead of just red, white, and blue would be great (and if you look at tooltips, yes... they consist of the colors of the USA flag). Perhaps a bit of new color would do some good for the tooltips and kill messages. Either way, this is yet another thing that doesn't matter too much.

Bugs/Issues

Well the only thing I'm going to complain about here is the Ressurection bug when someone levels in death. It's game-breaking in -anns mode and happens far too much with the fast exp gain. Thus, I truly hope that you'll find a way to fix it and keep resurrection useful.

Hopefully everyone liked my word on MM&M in its current state. I haven't played for a while, but I think I've gotten a good idea as to what's happened from the changelog.

They cost 4x as much. I personaly think they should cost like 60 gold tops. What's the point of single books if M-books are supperior? I think it should be a balance between single and M-books. Not just always an M-book and a single book.

Honestly, you need to play more. It's not an issue at all. (It was when it was 1% mana/sec but it's good now). Fights DON'T happen as often as you think, unless both mages need to regen mana. In which case it's really interesting and fun because you can't use your best spells (Orbs/Erupt/Nova etc.) It's a firing of basic spells and if you miss you're going to lose unless you can run.

I think they should have a main central theme. Sure they shouldn't be LIMITED to their theme, but they should centralize around it. Also, Ice Slide needs to not do damage after sliding >.<. It's rarely used Razz.

Again, spells are pretty fine. There are people like me and Shae who build, as others have called them "Gay" or "Fag" mages. Shae has a 4k HP earth. That's freaking intense. I got a 2.3kHP mage with spell resistance (So like 3K EHP). Spells doing less damage isn't the answer. It's the fact that people ALWAYS go 62 power, and end up lacking in HP. I've never seen anyone do a COMPLETELY even build. Like a 41/41/42 or something build. Making mages weaker overall, make NPC's stronger and games already take like 2 hours to end. Creeps become a huge factor and they die to eachother instantly anyway.

I was under the impression that Zync did pro math calculations with MS, so that aimed spells wouldn't be retarded. Like you have just enough time to dodge them, or not dodge them at a certain point. Something like that. I think it's good, but morph speeds could be tweaked (Or removed Smile)

I think the "Evil/Neutral/Good" scale sounds cool. Perhaps it could have some impact on the RPG like with bosses and the storyline. This could be developed.

two new cliffs are on the map in the latest official release 7.13b. Over the coming month the final additions and changes are going to be implemented before the code reset.

As for the spells it is a general goal to get all spells that should scale to scale properly. Spells like Tazer, Purge, Ice slide, blind and so on obviously do not require scaling, things that are not scaled like frost bite will most certainly be redone. As far as reducing damage, each release I put out I look at as many spells as I can, I try to objectionably view them as unbalanced or balanced and see what can be done about them. Balance takes time and will get better with each coming release.

105 seconds to be exact. Pythagoras has actually taken care of this with his new UnitDeath Timer structure which is active in 7.13b.

I agree, you can expect this issue to be addressed in the next month with terrain changes.

As far as questing is concerned the RPG side of questing has Boss's to look forward to. The AOS war side has PvP questing to look forward to. In addition we have added Items as Quest rewards which gives players a little bit more reason to quest. More additions to the rewards are expected but they are not priorities until after the code reset.

We all are saying the same exact thing.

When did the Resurrection bug come back? I thought we stomped that out in like 6.01.

Generally, not bad suggestions. If you got more specific or broke it down into individual topics about the more prominent things, I would probably have more comments.

I agree with Jay that I remember Zync talking about his pro MS calculations. I don't think we should mess with that except maybe in slight buffs on units only. If your complaint is how long it takes to get to the enemy base, that is better solved by shrinking the lane length IMO, as mage movement speeds are ok.

Also, I think that neutrals should be retooled instead of removed. They should be in a different spot, should be much stronger, and should be the requirement for getting potions. Get the quest, kill the neutrals (which would hopefully be almost as strong as the drake, or maybe the dragon for the better potions.) and then go get a potion in exchange for your hard work. Repeatable quest.

I'm surprised no one commented on my element-to-specialty part... the part where not every element should have a specialty. I was expecting people to go flame-warish on me for that one.

You know sometimes when you just CAN'T ress someone? Like you click on them and it tries, but fails. That's usualy cause they leveld up AFAIK. Sure, you still come back unlike WAY back where it was GG. You would even die on purpose so they would level and you would win Razz. But it's still annoying.

The way I see it, Jay and I have about half of the same ideas. He usually gets here first and posts them. I see no reason to repeat what he said, therefore he comes out with twice as many posts as me. Although lately, I have been posting more anyway just to prove that I can beat diaster without spamming.

Actually making corpses expire more quickly is in the gameplay constants, currently it is set at 88 seconds, easy fix to change it to a lower amount, the UnitStruct detonation occurs 105 seconds after death though. Both can easily be lowered, but if the UnitStruct time is lowered, then neutral creep respawn time must be lowered as well, because it requires the old UnitStruct for the creep to still be active.

Rez bug is pretty high priority at the moment.

Many spells that aren't used very often, such as Ice Slide, can be replaced very easily. Its all a matter of what is balanced and what is appropriate.
